Over 100 Years in the Making
It started in 1917 — a leased airfield outside Detroit, a nation mobilizing for war, and a community that answered the call. What grew from that field became one of the longest continuously operating military aviation installations in the United States. Selfridge has trained pilots for every major American conflict, flown missions across the globe, and sent the sons and daughters of Southeast Michigan to serve when it mattered most. The base has always belonged to this community — and this community has always stood behind it.
Now Selfridge enters a new chapter. The story is still being written. And Michigan is writing it.
